Anaelia Ovalle (they/them) is a computer science doctoral student at UCLA. They are currently obsessing over algorithmic fairness & AI ethics for inclusive NLP and representation learning. Elia is conscious of context-sensitive impacts and implications upon deployment, with particular interest in sociotechnical harm reduction. Able to see the big picture, they have hands-on experience as a data scientist building end-to-end machine learning systems with engineering teams alongside internal and external stakeholders.
They co-chair the UCLA Graduate Women in Computer Science organization, passionate about supporting engineers who identif(y/ied) as women in their industrial and academic endeavors. After work, you’ll find them cuddling with their cat, Toast, practicing Russian, or making latte art they’ll describe to you as “rorschache-like nouveau impressions” 🤔☕ .
